Short Term Plasticity
- Chemical synapses dynamically change their efficiency in effecting
the post-synaptic neuron.
- This can either increase or decrease the efficiency.
- This change can last for a range of times, but then the synapse
reverts back to its original state.
- A good entry to this area is Short-Term Synaptic Plasticity
by Zucker and Regehr (2002).
- My understanding is that this can be a change in the chemical
soup around a neuron, or just in the efficiency of a synapse.
- That's why it returns to the original state after a while.
