Potentation and Depression
- If an excitatory synapse gets stronger, it is potentiated.
- If it gets weaker, it is depressed.
- It's not entirely clear to me what the terminology is for inhibitory
synapses.
- I would say if the synapse becomes more inhibitory, it is potentiated,
but I can imagine there is terminological discussion.
- I haven't actually noticed the discussion on long term changes either.
- None the less, it seems that there is substantially less work in
short term plasticity than long term plasiticity particularly in
modelling.
- This shows the tension between biology and simulation.
