Mobile Phone Games
- I'm pretty sure that my, not particularly great, mobile phone has
more computational power than that main frame I mentioned in
the early online game page.
- Despite all that computation, they make really good light clients.
- That is, you play a multi user game on your phone, and most of
the computation is done somewhere else.
- Of course there are also games that are dedicated to run on
your phone. (I play a skiing game.) They're not distributed.
- If you have a light client, you need to send more data.
Typically, the phone company makes its money by selling bandwidth.
- The computational cycles are free.
- The iPhone is a good example here. You can play poker with up to 8
people. Note that has low bandwidth.
- You can play quake, but I'm not sure if that's multiuser.
