Sequential Combination of Methods

• To me, the obvious way to combine methods is a qualitative then quantiative sequence.
• Use a qualitative method to focus your questions.
• Then use a quantiative method to answer that question more conclusively.
• This seems to take the benefits of each.
• The exploratory and holistitc advantages of a qualitative method combined with the
• firm evidence given by a quantitative approach.
• (Cresswell calls this the Sequential Exploratory Strategy).
• Of course you could also have a quantitative the qualitative sequence.
• I guess this means you gather the hard data and do quantitative analysis, then use qualitative approaches to further expand on it.
• (Cresswell calls this the Sequential Explanatory strategy).
