Chris and Cell Assemblies
- I got my PhD in natural language parsing.
- It's clear that you need semantics to understand language (and
resolve parsing ambiguities).
- I knew about this CA stuff (from Steve Kaplan).
- So, I thought I'd just use it as my basis for semantics to
resolve PP attachment ambiguity.
- 15 years later I had a paper.
- The problem is that we don't really know how CAs work.
- It is however clear that we ground our symbols in our knowledge
of the environment.
- If we could understand how to do that, we'd be making great progress.
- I have however found a simple way to have CAs. I call them
binary cell assemblies.
