Cabling Equations
- If you think of an axon (or a dendrite) as a one dimensional cable,
you can model a neuron as a series of cables.
- The electrical flow with a cable from an adjacent cable can
then be easily calculated.
- You could do this with input from a synapse (electrical or
chemical).
- You could do this from an electrode.
- There are a lot of good simulators for this.
- As with most computer science, the algorithms continue to
improve.
- Could it be done with 2D cables or 3D shapes? What happens with
the soma?
- Is myelination modelled?
- Why is it important?
- Can a neuron be accurately modelled at the ms level?
