Perception
- Robot perception is closely related to other forms of perception.
- A system needs to perceive the environment; in a video game this
is often a virtual robot.
- With a physical robot, the robot needs to perceive its environment.
- It doesn't need to just view the environment (or touch it), it needs
to make sense of it.
- This doesn't mean it needs to pass the Turing test.
- It just needs to make sense of it for its own tasks.
- If it's an industrial robot putting together a lawn mower, it
may just need to find the type of bolts it needs.
- If it's a robotic car, it has to make sense of the road and
other agents (e.g. cars and pedestrians).
