The Turing Test

• The standard test for machine intelligence is the Turing Test.
• That is, if a machine can pass the test, it will be deemed to be intelligent.
• No machine has passed the test, and it is run annually as the Loebner prize.
• The test is to fool the user that the system is a human.
• It's a chatbot test, but it's open ended.
• That is, the user can talk for as long as he likes about anything he likes.
• This is an open domain test.
• Chatbots, and other AI systems, can be very effective in restricted domains, but they really have problems in open domains.
