Eliza
- Eliza was built in the 60s. Have you tried it?
- The chatbot acts as a therapist.
- It drives the conversation by asking the user questions.
- The underlying algorithm is pretty simple.
- It pulls certain phrases out of the user's input.
- For instance, it looks for family members.
- It then asks questions about those certain phrases.
- For instance, if the user has said "My mother is bothering me.",
Eliza will respond "tell me more about your mother".
- It will say the same thing in response to "It's a real mother for ya,
yeah."
- Yorick Wilks has a paper on how it's important for a system to control
the conversation to make it easier to be seen as human.
