Subgoaling

• Many goals can be broken down into subgoals.
• To make coffee, I need to have a machine, coffee, water and electricity.
• To put a disc on a peg, the peg must be empty, and the disc must have nothing on top of it.
• To achieve a goal, merely achieve all the subgoals.
• You of course do have to explicitly store how to break a goal into pieces.
• As there are often multiple ways of achieving a goal, you can use and-or trees here to solve this problem.
• It also may be important to fulfill the subgoals in a particular order.
