Spontaneous Activation from Hypo-Fatigue

Every neuron fires about once a second, even if it doesn't get any stimulation.
You can just randomly guess at this rate each cycle, and it will fire like that.
However, it may fire when it's just fired.
That doesn't really help much.
Fortunately, the fatigue mechanism gave us a nice in to spontaneous firing.
Since fatigue is added to the threshold for firing, if fatigue becomes negative, the neuron will fire.
So, we changed the neural model to include hypo-fatigue.
That actually made it a better fit to the biological data.
It also enables the system to spread beyond the input neurons.
