Spontaneous Activation from Hypo-Fatigue
- Every neuron fires about once a second, even if it doesn't
get any stimulation.
- You can just randomly guess at this rate each cycle, and it
will fire like that.
- However, it may fire when it's just fired.
- That doesn't really help much.
- Fortunately, the fatigue mechanism gave us a nice in to spontaneous
firing.
- Since fatigue is added to the threshold for firing, if fatigue
becomes negative, the neuron will fire.
- So, we changed the neural model to include hypo-fatigue.
- That actually made it a better fit to the biological data.
- It also enables the system to spread beyond the input neurons.
