Psychological and Cognitive Ramifications
- So we have a simulator that can account for some phenomenon
(CA formation, hierarchical categories, forgetting)
- An idea about a theory.
- We also have a real system that we are modelling: the brain.
- CA theory is meant to explain the brain, and simulations are
meant to emulate the brain.
- Unfortunately, much high order thinking is beyond our current
CA theory and simulator (e.g. rapid category formation,
problem solving, even timing)
- Basic computational theory is also incomplete (e.g. variable
binding).
- Is anyone interested in collaboration?
- From the psychological perspective I think the simulator needs
only minor modifications to deal with category activation timing
data, or hierarchical category retrieval.
- For the really bold, I'd like to hook this up to a robot. Is anyone
interested?
- There are a host of other problems I could discuss (e.g. series,
primitives, cognitive maps).
