It's based on discrete time cycles that can be considered equivalent to 10 ms.
Neurons are fatiguing leaky integrators.
It obeys Dales Law.
Topology is usually a loosely connected torus.
We keep the model as simple as possible unless we find a reason to make it more sophisticated.
It has been used to develop hierarchical categories, overlapping CAs, ambiguity and other CA experiments.
It has been used in real world applications as a categorisation system, and as an Information Retrieval system.
It can't currently reasonably solve the mule problem.
