Activation Curves
-
Onset of stimulus is at
0 seconds, and the curve shows the percentage of
neurons in the CA that are active.
- The initial peak is recognition, but the CA remains
active.
- This curve is known as the Snoopy curve, because it looks
kind of like Snoopy on his dog house (with no feet).
- When neurons are active for a long time they fatigue. Reverberation
enables a neuron to fatigue, but then later be reactivated by
other neurons in the CA.
- Fatigue causes the initial rapid drop, and subsequent slow drop
until it returns to the normal base rate.
