SOMs and CAs
- In essence, the activation process is the same in SOMs as in
CAs
- A particular category is selected
- With a CA system nearby CAs compete to say who represents
the input
- While in SOMs this is done by a distance measurement
- This short term dynamic is comparable
- Consequently, SOMs may inform CA exploration when it comes
to ambiguity
- SOMs however do have a set number of categories beforehand
while CAs have to grow them
- Perhaps this difference could be used to show how many CAs should
be grown
- This could lead to a good theory on recruitment
and fractionation
- Unlike Hopfield Nets, it is not clear how can CAs and SOMs can be
converted to each other
- SOMs are a more complex analogy
