Data Mining and Web Based Information Systems

• So why is Data Mining relevant to Web Based Information Systems?
• There are two main reasons:
  1. Data Mining can be presented as a Web Based Information System
  2. Data Mining can be applied to data derived from a Web Based Information System
• For example, a tool can be generated that queries data and does statistical analysis for a particular data set. This can be accessed via the web.
• It can be accessed freely or via an extranet.
• On the other hand, Data Mining can work on all that data from the web to extract information.
• This is the way Google and Facebook extract information from their users' activity.
• Let's take a few minutes in groups of 3 to discuss ways that existing web based companies do Data Mining.
