Data Mining
- Data Mining combines:
- Management of Big Data (e.g. Databases)
- Statistics, and
- Machine Learning
- to perform a range of tasks such as prediction.
- It can work with lots of data, or a small amount.
- It's currently not a science, but an art. However, people
are coming up with hard statistical results and sound
mathematical theories.
- Human expertise also significantly aids understanding
of a particular data set, and the information that can
be extracted from it.
- Data Mining is one mechanism for extracting information
from data.
