• Binary CAs persist indefinitely, unless something turns them off.
• They're largely on or off with not much of an intermediate state.
• So, they are poor models of CAs.
• However, they can implement FSAs.
• With this, they become quite powerful computationally.
• Moreover, it's relatively easy to make agents with them.
