Biology of Chemical Synapses

• If the synapse is going to become more efficient at activating the post-synaptic neuron (when the pre-synaptic neuron fires), it has to do something differently.
• 
• The pre-synaptic neuron could pump out more neurotransmitter.
• The post-synaptic neuron could receive more.
• It might be that the shape of the neurons change so that more transmitter is taken in.
• It might do all of these, and some other things.
• This is all has to be done with proteins and DNA.
