Central Pattern Generators
- People use central pattern generators to move.
- These are neural circuits that go through repeated
patterns.
- Lots of this resides in the spine and lower brain.
- That's how we can walk.
- There is a lot of work in using spiking neural simulations
to generate this kind of behaviour in robots.
- Other bits of neurons modulate these CPGs, so they can be very
flexible.
- Though some robots use this stuff, it's not closely aligned with
biological animal processing (not even ants). This is an
open area of research.
