Jacquard Loom

• The first computer was a robot.
• The Jacquard Loom used punchcards to program the loom.
• It was first demonstrated in 1801.
• The loom would then automatically weave the pattern programmed by the cards.
• My first program at University was on punch cards.
• The Jacquard Loom is a very simple industrial robot.
• Ok, this is open to argument, but it can reasonably be argued that the Jacquard Loom is the first computer.
