The Turing Test
- The Turing Test is the test for real (hard, or strong) AI (or AGI
Artificial General Intelligence)).
- (There's lots of other AI.)
- Put a computer in one room, a person in another, and a judge in
a third.
- Both computer and person can communicate with the judge via text.
- The judge can take as long as he'd like.
- If the judge can't tell the difference, or selects at chance, then
the computer is intelligent.
- You can extend this a bit, by noting that the person has to be
a reasonable person.
- There can be lots of judges, and so forth.
- No system has ever come close to passing this.
