Topological Regularity

• GAs are only going to work if things that are nearby have similar values.
• If it's entirely regular, the search will quickly converge.
• Typically there are lots of peaks and valleys in the space.
• It's important that things that are nearby in the gene sequence evaluate together because when you cross over, they stay together.
• As the distance increases, it becomes less important that the distant elements are closely related.
