The Turing Test

• The Turing Test is the test for real (hard, or strong) AI.
• (There's lots of other AI.)
• Put a computer in one room, a person in another, and a judge in a third.
• Both computer and person can communicate with the judge via text.
• The judge can take as long as he'd like.
• If the judge can't tell the difference, or selects at chance, then the computer is intelligent.
• You can extend this a bit, by noting that the person has to be a reasonable person.
• There can be lots of judges, and so forth.
• No system has ever come close to passing this.
