Serious Games

• A serious game is a game whose primary purpose is not entertainment.
• There are of course games (both serious and entertaining) that are not dynamic 3D games, but that's largely what we're concerned with.
• A lot of serious games is about education. How do you teach kids how maths, or history. A game might help.
• There are games for exercise (Wii fit).
• There are also games to make art (both visual and musical).
• However, the big category of serious game is simulation.
• People want to develop all kinds of simulation. There are a range of military applications, but also commercial air plane, and for that matter, it's not a bad way to learn to drive.
• These really fit in well with virtual worlds, and virtual worlds fit in really well with games.
