Hebb and Some Neural Evidence
- People have been thinking about Intelligence for a long time.
- One of the more recent people (a psychologist) is
D. O. Hebb who did some great work around 1950.
- Hebb proposed a solution for the problem of
How Do People Store Concepts?
- The science of the day (which is still correct) showed that
- The brain consists of Neurons and Axons
- Each axon connects one neuron to another unidirectionally
- The neurons are not well connected
- The connections are distance biased. That is, inside the brain,
if two neurons are physically close they are more likely to be
connected.
- A neuron can only be active for so long. It fatigues.
- Neurons (and axons) die.
- Contrary to the popular myth, we also grow new neurons.
- This shows that a concept is not stored in a neuron.
