Introduction and Motivation
- Two long standing questions are:
- How do people think?
- What does something mean?
- A related and perhaps simpler question is how do you get a machine to
think and do interesting human-like things.
- I think Cell Assemblies are central to the first two questions,
and will be useful in doing the third.
- CAs are reverberating neural circuits.
- CAs are the neural basis of concepts.
- My background is in Natural Language Processing.
- A few years ago I started to explore CAs as a basis for semantics
in NLP systems.
- We don't understand the workings of these neural
circuits (human or artificial).
- Over the last few years I've looked at these systems and have tried to
gain an understanding through simulations and theoretical analysis.
