Overcome and Merge subnets
- We know that you can program anything in neurons, so we weren't
too concerned that we could come up with a solution.
- We ended up with an additional two subnets for each WTA
net.
- The first was a merge net, that took streams that were
really quite distant (without that really inhibitted bit
in the middle), and pushed them togehter.
- These neurons were activated by the streams in the WTA net, and
sent inhibition increasing with distance. As the outside
of the stream got less activation than the inside, the streams were
pushed together.
- However, this wasn't enough to overcome that big repelling stream.
- A second net, the overcome net, did this.
- The overcome neurons were activated by the WTA neurons. They
sent inhibition further away and excitation locally. They were
kind of a wider range WTA net.
- This made the streams pop together.
