Human like components (neurons)
- This talk is about a model of biological neurons.
- Of course I'm talking about neural models not merely connectionist
ones.
- There are researchers who make very accurate models and have for
years.
- Compartmental models (Hodgkin and Huxley 1952) are really accurate.
- Of course, they're expensive to simulate and we need to simulate
thousands, millions, or even in billions (100,000,000,000) in real
time.
- The Blue Brain project (Markram 2006) wants to simulate 100 billion
compartmental neurons in real time, but they're happy using a
lot of machines.
- So, our current model is a point model.
- It can simulate 100,000 neurons in real time on a standard PC.
- It's a FLIF neuron.
- Most of the talk is about how accurate the FLIF model is.
