Shepard, Hovland and Jenkins
Learning and memorization of classifications
- They did a lot of Psych experiments bse on a binary classification
(categorisation) task.
- There were three binary features, so eight members.
- An example of the elements were big vs. small; black vs white;
and triangle vs square.
-
- They always put four members in each category.
- One split would be black things vs white things.
- A different one would be black squares and white triangles vs. white
squares and black triangles.
- There are different types of binary category tasks with 8 members
based on 3 binary features, and people behave differently on them.
