Half Cognitive Model
- My thinking is that this is not a good cognitive model, but
a good half cognitive model.
- Kahneman (and Tversky) have an idea that the mind has two systems:
a fast parallel system, and a slow deliberative system.
- One of Shepard et al's tasks was to make up rules for categorisation.
- This is a great task for a deliberative system, and the rules
for type 2 are really quite simple.
- My proposal is that categorisation takes advantage of both systems.
- The full system categorises initially using the first system, but then
involves the second.
- The neural categorisation system is a good model
of the first parallel system.
