The Human Brain Project
- I've had a bit of funding from the HBP for the last couple of years
and I have an RF (Alberto) starting in January.
- I'm in the neuromorphic computing subproject, and what I do is write
systems in emaulated neurons (mostly SpiNNaker but also BrainScales),
and simulated neurons.
- There's also a neurorobotics subproject. They've got a virtual
environement, with some robots that are accessible over the internet.
- One of the big things I've done until now is make neural agents in
virtual environments.
- The current task is to make them in NRP virtual environments.
- One of the cool things we could do with a neural cognitive architecture
is to use it to develop agents that functioned in these VEs.
- Similarly, the SpiNNaker guys have a (roughly) billion neuron machine.
- It doesn't quite work with the NRP VE yet, but this means we could
have a big neural machine in a VE.
- Similarly, BrainScales isn't quite as developed yet, but it goes
at 10,000 real time. So, if this worked, with a VE, an agent could live
for a year in about an hour.
