- You are building on a body of knowledge. What is that body of
knowledge?
- A great deal of that knowledge is based on relatively broadly
agreed theory.
- By stating what your assumptions are, you are making that
knowledge, that theory, explicit.
- (You need to put references in your thesis.)
- If you don't make it explicit, it remains implicit, and you assume
that you and everyone who interacts with you on this work
agrees to and understands those theories.
