Cell Assemblies (Part 1)
- Those who've seen Chris' talks before know that he is a Cell Assembly
guy, and this talk is just another mechanism is about another mechanism
for using and exploring CAs.
- CAs are the neural basis of concepts from Hebb in 1949.
- A see is a bunch of neurons that can fire persistently even after
environmental input has stopped.
- So, you have a CA for Kettle, and when you're thinking about a Kettle,
those neurons fire at an elevated rate.
- There's extensive, and still growing evidence, of their importance and
their behaviour.
- While you have CAs for objects you also have CAs for processes, for
instance looking for a kettle's handle.
- While you are looking for a kettle's handle, the neurons in that CA
are firing at an elevated rate.
