GATE: A General Architecture for Text Extraction
- They've been developing GATE at Sheffield for about 10 years
now. I worked at Sheffield before I came here, and have
a pretty fair experience with GATE.
- The basic idea is that you can take components and combine
them in different ways for different language processing
tasks.
- We're trying to get the conversational and NLG modules
into GATE right now.
- The big advantage is that there are a scad of NLU
modules already working.
- There may be some system overloading problems in the
long run that will make us move away from GATE.
- Wilks (from Sheffield) isn't using GATE for his
conversational system.
- Using it may make generalising to new conversational
domains and tasks easier.
