Attenuation of Neural Waves
- Beurle has modeled groups of neurons as waves
- The two dimensional model is like dropping a pebble
into a pool
- The pebble is external activation of neurons
- The ripples (or waves) moving away from the pebble are
neurons firing
- The height of the wave is the number of neurons firing in the
area. The more that fire the higher the wave.
- A wave of maximum height carries less information than
one of medium height.
- Spontaneous activation can reduce the height
- Spontaneous activation causes neurons to fire before the
wave passes through
- Fatigue means some neurons do not fire when the wave passes through
