Passing the Turing Test
- I used to think that we wouldn't build a system that would pass the
Turing test in my lifetime.
- I did think it would eventually be done.
- Now, I still think we won't really pass it in my lifetime, but the
HBP makes me think we might.
- I do think we'll build conversational agents that can exist for
years and continue to learn throughout.
- Systems that can live for years and learn about sophisticated
environments might not pass the test, but would still be really
useful.
- For example, I could have an email assistant that actually
helped me.
- Video game agents would continue to learn and get more
interesting.
- Computer programs could act as teaching assistants and
really help individual students, and maybe even teachers.
- All this time we'll be learning more and more about how people
actually work.
