However, they aren't necessarily firing in the same pattern.
As the binding neurons are recruited, all of the neurons start to fire in the same pattern.
The key difference, is that they are bound by synaptic weight change not by synchrony.
As binding is so computationally important, it is entirely plausible that multiple types of binding occur in the brain.
