Long Term Memory
- That set of neurons or CA that gets activated is a Long Term
Memory
- That is, the same neurons are involved in the short and long
term memories.
- The difference is that a short term memory has a large percentage
of the neurons firing.
- It is obvious how you can get a short term memory from long
term memory, but how is the LTM formed in the first place?
- The LTM is formed by presentation of members of the concept.
- At a given level (from the interface) of the brain,
neurons are stimulated from presentation of an item.
- Hebbian learning causes the synaptic strength between those
neurons to grow.
- Eventually, the strength grows enough to enable reverberation.
- So, a concept (LTM) is a group of features that tend to co-occur.
