Artificial Intelligence
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been around for over 50 years.
- There have been a lot of advances over that time.
- A lot of AI is currently being applied in industry.
- You could easily count Google (the search engine) as an AI.
- Machine learning is everywhere; that's what Tesco uses your
clubcard information for.
- Speech recognition, spell checking, video game agents,
network routing etc.
- These applications of AI are what we call soft AI. That
is, just doing cool things that are "Intelligent".
- Another goal of AI is called hard AI. That's trying to do
things like humans do.
- We're a long way from that, but
- that's what I'm working toward.
- This could give us real science-fiction-like AI.
- Progress toward this will give us more powerful and more
useful systems.
