Variable Binding
   - I want to start by noting that the community has made some progress.

   - Variable binding is the problem of giving a variable a value
in a neural system. Jackendoff (2002) says this is a major problem
       for our community.

   - Jackendoff dismisses binding by synchrony, but I think that's
       unfair.

   - Van der Velde has had binding by active links.

   - We've done binding by short-term potentiation.

   - We've used long-term potentiation too, but that runs into
       the stability plastiticy dilemma.

   - Eliasmith has used binding via vector operations.

   - To some extent, these techniques address the problem,
but the question remains how does
       the brain do it?
